updates

6.5 months
Austin has really started to want to crawl.  The last few days you can tell he is really trying but just doesnt know how to move his big 'ol belly yet.  He has started trying to pull himself up and wont sit still!

He is starting to sleep better too.  We decided to try the "cry it out" method and it has been working.  The first night he cried for about 45 minutes in the middle of the night, but eventually went back to sleep.  The next night it was only 15 minutes and last night he slept all night!

He is up to eating 3 meals a day and still nursing 4-5 times/day.  Bed time is a little earlier than it was, usually b/t 7 and 8p.

He is laughing a ton and loving his toys or any object for that matter.

His next feat will probably be actually picking the cheerio up AND getting it off his slimy wet hand and into his mouth.

The sippy cup adventure is going well too... He's actually drinking and not just biting on the cup.

Monkey review - 6 months

Just thought I would highlight a few 6 month things so one day when I say "I cant remember when he did ..." I can just scan the 'reviews'.

As of 6 months Austin has...

  • Started using his sippy cup with water
  • Tried green beans, avacado, peas, pears, squash, mashed potatoes, pancakes, bananas and turkey and sweet potatoes
  • Mastered sitting up
  • Rolled both ways and loves to roll over during diaper changes
  • Started getting up during the night again
  • Putting his arms up so you'll pick him up

Sippy

Austin has been learning how to drink water out of his sippy. The past coupole of days he has just been biting on the cup, but today he was actually drinking.

Austin's first Dunk

open swim night

On Friday night, we went to open swim night at Milan Middle School. It was Austin's first time in a pool and he loved it. He stayed in almost the whole hour and love kicking around on his stomach. He was really quiet the whole time, just trying to figure out how he was in the biggest bath tub ever. He even went under water a few times with no tears!

Peas

First day of Peas!

He's sitting in my high chair from way back when

Lunch at OHOP

We had lunch at the Original House of Pancakes today after helping out. Austin had some of my pancakes and drank some water from my straw. The doctor said yesterday that we could give him table food, so I thought I would give it a try. He had some mashed potatoes yesterday too. Of course, he loved it all. I know I am probably breaking all the new food rules, but were doing well so far.

Helping out

Today we went to Michelle's old work and helped organize the clothing closet.
You can tell what a big help Austin was.

Waiting for his Dr. appt.

Austin had his 6 month check up yesterday and everything was great. He weighed in at 19 lb. 2 oz and was 28 inches. Here he is rocking before the appt.

Family

Good friends of the family came over Saturday and took these pictures for us. Thanks so much Bob and Dort! Here are a couple of my favorites, but there are more on my blog...

Trader Joe's O's

I have been waiting for the big "Cheerio debut" with Austin...waiting for what, i am not really sure, so I decided to end the waiting. At Grandma Jo's on Saturday I saw she had Joe's O's so we gave it a try. Now, nothing against Cheerio's but I think Austin is a Joe's O's kind of kid. I broke some pieces up naively thinking he would pick them up off the plate i put them on, but what was i thinking? He immediately picked up the plate, dumping all the O's and put the whole plate in his mouth! After a little assistance he chowed down all the O's...it was so cute to watch him "chew" even though they probably dissolved almost instantly and he has no teeth.

Michelle's Party

Saturday was Michelle's going away party. She's leaving for the peace corps in 2 weeks so we got some family together and wished her well. Here are a few highlights.
